Install from the Chrome Web Store
Recommended for regular users. Chrome verifies the store package automatically and future versions can update through the store.
Open the Store Page
Use the Chrome card on the launch-status page to open the PaperLens page in the Chrome Web Store.
Add to Chrome
Click Add to Chrome, confirm the permission prompt, and wait for the extension to finish installing.
Pin the Extension
Open the browser extension menu and pin PaperLens to the toolbar for settings, sign-in, and status access.
Refresh Research Pages
Return to PubMed, Google Scholar, Web of Science, Semantic Scholar, or another supported page and refresh it; PaperLens will load page enhancements in place.
Install from a Zip Package (Unzip First)
Useful during store review or for test builds. Chrome cannot install by selecting the zip directly; unzip it first, then load the extracted extension folder.
Download the Official Zip
Download the official PaperLens zip package only from the PaperLens launch-status page. Do not use packages from unknown sources.
Unzip to a Stable Folder
Extract the zip to a stable location such as Downloads/PaperLens or Applications/PaperLens, and confirm that manifest.json is inside the folder. Do not delete or move this folder after loading it.
Open Extensions
Enter chrome://extensions in the Chrome address bar, then turn on Developer mode in the top-right corner.
Load the Unpacked Extension
Click Load unpacked and choose the extracted PaperLens folder. Select the folder, not the zip file.
Enable and Refresh
Make sure the PaperLens switch is on, then refresh supported research pages. To update a zip build later, replace the extracted folder and click Reload on the extension page.
Notes
Use the Web Store path for official use and the zip package path mainly for testing during review. Zip installation requires Developer mode, so Chrome may show a developer-mode warning; this is expected for manually loaded extensions. Only install the official package from litlink.cc/en.
Firefox Extension Installation Guide
Install from Firefox Add-ons
Recommended for official use. Firefox handles signing checks and future updates through the add-ons listing.
Open the Add-ons Page
Use the Firefox card on the launch-status page to open the PaperLens page on Firefox Add-ons.
Add to Firefox
Click Add to Firefox, confirm the permission prompt, and wait for the extension to finish installing.
Open or Pin PaperLens
Find PaperLens in the Firefox toolbar or extensions menu, then open settings, sign in, and confirm the status.
Refresh Research Pages
Return to PubMed, Google Scholar, Web of Science, Semantic Scholar, or another supported page and refresh it; PaperLens will load page enhancements in place.
Install a Temporary Test Build
Useful during review or local testing. Firefox temporary add-ons are removed after browser restart, so the store version is still recommended for official use.
Download the Official Test Package
Download the official PaperLens Firefox test package only from litlink.cc/en. Do not use extension files from unknown sources.
Unzip to a Stable Folder
Extract the package to a stable folder and confirm that manifest.json is inside it.
Open Debugging
Enter about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox in the Firefox address bar to open This Firefox debugging.
Load the Temporary Add-on
Click Load Temporary Add-on and select manifest.json from the extracted PaperLens folder.
Refresh and Test
After PaperLens appears in the temporary extension list, refresh supported research pages. Reload it after restarting Firefox.
Notes
Firefox users should prefer the Add-ons listing for official use. Temporary loading is only for pre-release testing; it does not auto-update and may need to be loaded again after restart.
Edge Extension Installation Guide
Install from Microsoft Edge Add-ons
Recommended for official use. Edge verifies the store package and can update future versions through the add-ons listing.
Open the Edge Add-ons Page
Use the Edge card on the launch-status page to open the PaperLens page on Microsoft Edge Add-ons.
